Privacy policy

This policy covers the Butt Vision Chrome extension. In short: we never see your screenshots, questions or answers, and we don't sell anything.

Screenshots

Only when you press the keyboard shortcut, Butt Vision captures the visible part of the current tab and sends it directly from your browser to the AI provider whose API key you entered: Groq or OpenRouter. Their privacy policies apply to that request. Screenshots are not stored by the extension and never reach us.

Settings

Your API key, chosen model and custom prompt are kept in Chrome's extension storage (chrome.storage.sync), which Chrome may sync across your own signed-in browsers. They are only sent to the provider the key belongs to.

Anonymous usage statistics

To see whether the extension works, it sends anonymous events to PostHog: install and update, settings changes (provider, model, whether the prompt was customised), and each answer request's provider, model, response time and success or error type. Events are tied to a random ID generated on install, not to your identity. As with any web request, PostHog receives your IP address when an event is sent. Events never include screenshots, page content, questions, answers, URLs, API keys or personal details.

What we don't do

Removing your data

Uninstalling the extension deletes its stored settings and the random ID. To ask about anything else, email [email protected].
